Water is an omnipresent resource yet rare and\u00a0<strong>indispensable for life<\/strong>. Humans can only access a small amount of unsalted water:\u00a0<strong>lakes, rivers, and groundwater<\/strong>\u00a0from aquifers represent only 1% of the available water on earth.<br> Population growth, economic development and urbanization reinforce the need of drinking water-without forgetting\u00a0<strong>global warming<\/strong>\u00a0which contributes drastically to \u00ab\u00a0<strong>hydric stress<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb or water scarcity of the\u00a0<strong>planet<\/strong>.<br> According to the\u00a0<strong>World Health Organization (WHO)<\/strong>, out of 8 billion inhabitants more than 3 billion do not have\u00a0<strong>access to drinking water<\/strong>. Another 2.5 billion lack access to\u00a0<strong>water sanitizing systems<\/strong>, even if we know that<strong>\u00a0hygiene, drinking water and health<\/strong>\u00a0are connected.<br> Water related diseases are the number one cause of mortality in the world (11,000\/day, 8\/minute of which 50% are children). These numbers might increase in the following years, as the gap between the consumption of water between Western and\u00a0<strong>emerging countries<\/strong>\u00a0widen and even more so in the next 15 years.<br> AguaSmart\u2019s and our partners\u2019 experience and knowledge allows us to offer an<strong>economic, ecological and sustainable solution\u00a0<\/strong>to different areas of the world where drinking water is needed.
